Well done to B & M Stores

So great to see the old focus store back in use, the new B & M store is good news for the town.

The owners of the old Haldanes store just need to find a business to take over the site or  the owners of the site to split it up into smaller units.

Has anyone heard anything re the big Amber Valley plan for the town, Imo not consultanted with many in business!! Will it be another load of hot air and waste of money like the plan 10 years ago.

What do you think?

Ideas for the Belper.

With the ex Haldanes store on King Street I would split the shop into 4 or 5 smaller units. Then stop the buses on that part of King Street and create a cafe/ bar in 1 unit with outdoor seating European style, and then create a space for street entertainment etc.

With Derwent Street at the bottom end build a news sports complex working with the Football club, Cricket, Tennis, Hockey etc, with first class swimming etc.

For the rest of Derwent Street build a Business Centre that offers a range of fully serviced office suites, heated workshops and practical industrial units as well as excellent fully accessible conference facilities.
Very much based on ideas from Coney Green Business Park in Clay Cross http://www.coney-green.co.uk/ .

If you think over the last 10 years Belper have lost many jobs from business's moving out of the Belper like Thorntons, Deb, Jaeger's, Fuch's etc, Belper needs help to create jobs for local people. We need to look at funding ie ask it to be a small Government Enterprise zone.

The North and East Mills need to be bought from the current owner and then set up as a charity trust, funded via the National Lottery.

These are just a few ideas, please put your comments here and then will pass this on to local councilors, MP etc.

Belper Leisure Centre....

With all that is being talked about I think Amber Valley are getting it wrong, I think they would be better sorting out Derwent Street as are Tesco coming? If not they need to look at building it down the bottom of Derwent Street, a true public partnership with the Hockey club, Tennis, Cricket, Rugby, and Football.  A sports centre that is up to the best as we have a great swimming hero in Ross Davenport so lets have the best for the future. What do you think? Amber Valley please make the time for us to have the best and please dont take a route of a quick action!

Lots of talk but no action.

What I have seen over the last 10 years is a lot of talk but very little action. Amber Valley Borough Council did this in 2001 click to find out more and nothing has been done so we now need a real focus and plan. So what is happening down Derwent Street? What is happening with North and East Mills? Where is Amber Valley's plan for the future of our town? What do our councillors do for our town? It's about time that we all worked together to take our town forward as we can not rely on the council as they lack true real focus. What do you think?

How do you think Belper can be improved, what shops or services is the town missing?
